Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries.

"Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive." ~ H.H. The 14th Dalai Lama

One has to try to develop one's inner feelings for love and compassion, which can be done simply by training one's mind and thought. This is a priceless human asset and one, for which we don't have to pay income tax! If the love and compassion within our mind is lost and we see other beings as enemies, then no matter how much knowledge or education or material comfort we have, only suffering and confusion will ensue. As we grow older we have to discover love and compassion within us. This discovery enables

us to project our love and show compassion for others. Anything that is created must sooner or later die, but the love and compassion not created but discovered and produced within us, stays permanent. Many think love and compassion as factors contributing to the destruction of self, while the real truth is; these virtues have shaped the history of mankind. If we only think of ourselves, if we know only our own needs and ignore the needs of the other person we are bereft of love. The essence of love and compassion is understanding, the ability to recognize the physical, material, and psychological suffering of others, to put ourselves "inside the skin" of the other. Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule, while a life full of love and compassion are the things which renew humanity. These are our universal responsibility and the sources of peace and happiness. Why then, should we not try to evoke love and compassion as virtues in us, for that to bloom into kindnesses and generosity?
